Lil’ Acro

Instructions

updated 01282025

This is a small acrobatic flyer with a 914mm wingspan. Inspired by David Boddington’s Aeromite, plans for which can be found on Outerzone at https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=14608

Electric motor, single servo aileron wing, rudder and elevator. The wing servo is mounted upside down, and the rudder and elevator servos are mounted using the LA_Servo_Standoff TPU parts glued into Fuse 3 where suitable.

4S ~1800 mAH LiPo and suitable motor ESC setup.

Materials Required:

PETG, TPU, foaming LW-PLA

Wing:

– Main Spar: 1000mm x 6mm carbon fiber rod or tube cut to 890mm

– Rear Spar: 10000mm x 3mm carbon fiber rod or tube cut to 890mm

Magnets: (8) 10mm x 3mm strong circular magnets for canopy and wings.

Almost every STL included will need print orientation manipulation during slicing i.e. the flattest side/surface of a model is usually the bottom layer.

FUSELAGE:

3% Gyroidal infill single wall

Print Fuse 1 and Fuse 2 with PLA or stronger. Print Fuse 3 – 5 with LW-PLA.

Fuse 1: Print with nose down and 15 or more bottom layers for motor mounting reinforcement.

WING:

WING CENTER: PETG or equivalent strength  filament required. Use the same filament for this as the main gear struts. This part will likely require print support. I printed it with the servo hold facing upwards (upside down).

2% Gyroidal infill single wall for L + R wing parts 1 + 2. LW-PLA required.

CENTER OF GRAVITY is the rearward most point where the main gear struts meet Wing Center. Right behind the gear struts attach to the wing.

GEAR STRUTS: Print these with the wheel side pointing up with supports. To complete the front gear, use a length of music wire as an axle. Use with the axle plugs to keep the wheels on the axle or a couple locking collars.

SERVO STANDOFFS: Print with TPU, 100% infill. Placement of these are up to you, as close to the front of Fuse 3 as possible.

Tail surfaces 100% infill LW-PLA.

Tires TPU 100% infill.

Wheels PETG/PLA.

Rear Gear TPU / 100% infill! Use carbon fiber 1mm rod or steel wire for axle. Rear gear wheel is PETG or PLA.

These instructions are included in the read me document in the zip file.

  1. Flew Lil’ Acro today with a 2700mah 4S and it was perfect!. Plenty of speed and strength with the carbon spars. Rolls and loops galore.

Tip while looping with a heavy battery – make sure you have some decent altitude, you’ll need the space.
